Tell Your Story: Religiously Motivated Educational Neglect
If you were a homeschooled child who was educationally neglected for religious reasons, we want to hear from you.
CRHE is filing an amicus brief in an upcoming Supreme Court case, Mahmoud v. Taylor, which is about how parents take religious exemptions from educational requirements for their children.
The attorneys we’re working with are looking for stories of religiously motivated educational neglect to include in the brief. In particular, we want the Supreme Court to hear about experiences of children who were deprived of a basic education because of their parents’ religious convictions:
Home educators deprive children of instruction in subjects like language arts or math on the basis of religion.
Home educators refuse children basic education in core subjects on account of their gender.
This case will be heard in late April, so we’re looking to compile stories by 3/24.
